The American Pit Bull Terrier

The REAL Truth About Pit Bulls: Don't Be Fooled by the Media

What is BSL?

BSL stands for Breed Specific Legislation, and it is, in the very least, discrimination and racism.  BSL is the euthanization of dogs that the government of certain states believes to be dangerous to the public.  Already Denver, Miami, and the Canadian Province of Ontario have passed this law, forcing innocent, loving owners to hand over their dogs that are believed to be a threat so they can be unjustly euthanized.  BSL affects pit bulls, rottweilers, mastiffs, German shepherds, boxers, great danes, and saint bernards, but its main target is the American Pit Bull Terrier, or pit bull.  Many loving owners have faced court and the threats of jail to protect the life of their pet.  Does this sound just to you?

For example, BSL in human life would be like seizing everybody with the last name of Johnson just because one man with the last name of Johnson was sent to jail.
Is that equality?  No, and if you think it is, then you need to do more research.

Help Stop BSL

Today, there are many organizations that are fighting against the cruelties of BSL and have one main goal: to stop it.  Even though this is just one more website out of the other hundreds, it's still one more that can change a person's mind about how they feel about pit bulls and other dogs affected by BSL.  We want YOU to help, because the more you help, the more of a chance we'll have to end BSL.
Don't be so easily swayed by the media's stories and reports!  There are many reports of pit bull attacks, but did you know that there are even more attacks from different breeds that just aren't reported?  On TV, if they find a dog that was attacked by a pit bull, note that they'll say, "It was attacked by a pit bull."  But if it wasn't attacked by a pit bull, they'll just say, "It was attacked by a dog."  What breed?  They'll never say.

A Fighting Chance

This is a poem that was submitted by Maggie Johnson - thank you so much!!

A Fighting Chance

Ode to the Animal Known as the Pit Bull

Devoted, powerful, beautiful, strong,

The strength in your voice gives lift to your song.

Loyal, graceful, loving, protecting,

And yet everyone just keeps on forgetting

What you’ve done, and the reasons why,

And how you’ve even been forced to die

For not making just the right amount,

And so your song can never come out.

You show so much love, but yet they still hide

And gravel at screens, full of truths, but more lies.

You make one mistake and you’re taken away

From those who you love; this life can’t replay.

You hope that this virus won’t spread through the country,

And maybe someday they’ll see your true beauty

And realize they took advantage of your power,

So in the next life you’ll be loved hour by hour.

Why is it so hard for people to see

That you only wish that they were pleased?

You fight so hard, and push yourself beyond the limit

To see them smile, maybe become their favorite.

When will people show that love in return?

When will they walk through their fires, and not get burned?

I know it’s hard to understand right now,

But I know this pain will end someway, somehow.

I’ll always defend you, be right by your side,

So that maybe our thoughts won’t always collide.

When people reject you, don’t lose hope:

There’s always someone who’ll help you cope.

Don’t lose faith when your castles become sand,

It won’t always end the way it began,

And I know right now it’s hard to understand,

But this pain will somehow, sometime, reach its end.
