Today, there are many organizations that are fighting against the cruelties of BSL and have one main goal: to stop it. Even though this is just one more website out of the other hundreds, it's still one more that can change a person's mind about how they feel about pit bulls and other dogs affected by BSL. We want YOU to help, because the more you help, the more of a chance we'll have to end BSL. This is a poem that was submitted by Maggie Johnson - thank you so much!!
A Fighting Chance
Ode to the Animal Known as the Pit Bull
Devoted, powerful, beautiful, strong,
The strength in your voice gives lift to your song.
Loyal, graceful, loving, protecting,
And yet everyone just keeps on forgetting
What you’ve done, and the reasons why,
And how you’ve even been forced to die
For not making just the right amount,
And so your song can never come out.
You show so much love, but yet they still hide
And gravel at screens, full of truths, but more lies.
You make one mistake and you’re taken away
From those who you love; this life can’t replay.
You hope that this virus won’t spread through the country,
And maybe someday they’ll see your true beauty
And realize they took advantage of your power,
So in the next life you’ll be loved hour by hour.
Why is it so hard for people to see
That you only wish that they were pleased?
You fight so hard, and push yourself beyond the limit
To see them smile, maybe become their favorite.
When will people show that love in return?
When will they walk through their fires, and not get burned?
I know it’s hard to understand right now,
But I know this pain will end someway, somehow.
I’ll always defend you, be right by your side,
So that maybe our thoughts won’t always collide.
When people reject you, don’t lose hope:
There’s always someone who’ll help you cope.
Don’t lose faith when your castles become sand,
It won’t always end the way it began,
And I know right now it’s hard to understand,
But this pain will somehow, sometime, reach its end.
